Opening Files In Multiple Apps

Hello all-

I'm new to scripting. I have a work flow that I do several times a month where I create audio files, normalize them, convert them to MP3's and then upload to an FTP server. It involves opening the files in multiple apps sequencially.

This seems like the perfect opportunity for an automator or Apple script. Can anyone point me in the direction of the basic building blocks of such a script?
