i want to upgrade my first gen macbook's memory to 1GB, but it's a bit pricey from apple- $150.

Don't know about that vendor, but
OWC is a very good/reliable Mac vendor and they stand behind everything they sell.
Their price is a few dollars more.
Apple doesn't make memory, they only sell it at a higher price.
