According to the documentation that Oracle provides. You need OSXserver. I need to buy a new Mac in January. I want to be able to run Oracle at home so I can experiment with it. I was hoping to get dual GHz machine with Jaguar to do it.
What is the differenece between Jaguar and Server? Has anyone got Oracle 9i installed on a Mac?

I think many people have successfully installed it on plain vanilla Jaguar. Take a look at the excellent tutorial series on this subject on O'Reilly website (can't remember where).

I suppose Oracle might want to tell you that for a production machine you really need OSX Server (otherwise you're just playing with it) to be serious. You know, it is not a piece of software to trifle with.

I read the series at O'Reily on it but parts 1 and 2 have not said anything yet about installation. Hopefully the next installment will. I downloaded the software and the installation instructions say OSXserver. I need to get a new machine to do the job and just trying to get my ducks in order. I am novice DBA working on Solairs and Tru64 and it would be nice to be able to experiment at home with Oracle on a Mac.
