OS 10.4.5 looses WPA association on sleep

Hello. Of course my first post has to be a "help me".

My iBook looses it's association with my wireless network every time it goes to sleep mode. It also retains no memory of the network name. Every time I reconnect, I basically have to set up the network again on the iBook.
iBook:
G3 running OS 10.4.5
Airport card firmware 9.52
Airport Admin Utility 4.2
Using WPA Personal (PSK)
Router:
Linksys WRT54G version 4 running Talisman/Basic 1.1 firmware
802.11b/g mode with no ESSID broadcast
WPA PSK (TKIP)

I have absolutely authentication/association issues when I do it manually - I just choose "other" network, enter my ESSID, choose WPA Personal, enter my PSK password, and I connect immediately.
I also have no connectivity issues - once I'm connected, data transfer is at max Mbps with no loss of packets, etc.

I have another iBook in the house - that does not EVER have this issue. It's a G3 running OS 10.3.5, with Airport card firmware 9.42, and Airport Admin Utility 3.4.

I'm going to do the update to OS 10.4.6 - but it doesn't list any wireless issues being addressed in it. I guess I'll also look for Airport Card firmware - but given the earlier version of the other iBook, that doesn't hold much hope.

Anyone else run across this? Thanks for any info you can spare...

for some reason, when I joined the network using the Airport shortcut in my toolbar, it didn't remember the network.
When I did the same thing in System Prefs>Network>Airport, it "stuck".
Hmmm. I could swear that I'd done it the shortcut way before upgrading to Tiger. Maybe I'm imagining things. Anyway, doing it in System Prefs worked.
