OS 10.5.7 Will not connect to 2WIRE

I just bought a Macbook Pro running 10.5.7, and it will not connect to my AT&T Uverse 2WIRE connection. It isn't a hardware issue or OS issue since I can connect to 3 of my neighbors' wireless.

I have tried turning password security off, switching from WEP to WPA, inserting the dollar sign before the encryption key, you name it I've tried it.

After speaking with an AT&T tech, he explained to me that the 2WIRE router I have isn't compatible with anything past 10.5, and that I need to pick up a router with a 192.168.0 IP and compatible with OS 10.5.7, connect it to the 2WIRE router and play with the DNS and DMZ settings.

This sound crazy to me, I just wanted to know if I'm wasting time and money by doing something like this or if someone has experienced something of this nature and can suggest what I can do.

A PC running Vista (my father didn't know any better) and my Dual core G5 running 10.4 work perfectly on this same network.

The preferences pane in 10.5 is laid out differently than the one in 10.4. It is my bet that you have not yet properly setup your wireless access in your newer OS.

what did I miss?

everything seems fine. DHCP is on, i've made sure everything checks out.

has anyone else on here had this issue?

Without access to your machine, there is no way to know what your missed. You used the term everything twice. That is completely non-descriptive because DHCP meets no one's definition of everything.

Understand this: If your Mac problems were reversed with your being unable to access wirelessly using MacOS X 10.4 but having MacOS X 10.5 connecting OK, then there might be reason to suspect that your problem is caused by an unsupported protocol.

AT&T uses standard protocols. Apple uses and supports these same standard protocols by using industry-standard cards inside Apple-branded cases. Apple has not removed support of any wireless protocol from Tiger to produce Leopard.

So, what you need to do is to go through your Network preferences panes to see how each of your settings in Leopard compare to your settings in Tiger.
