OS 9 startup after upgrade to Tiger

We've just bought a used iMac, which is currently running OS X 10.2 and OS 9.2.2. We bought it purposely so that my wife can start the machine up in OS 9. If I upgrade to Tiger, will it still be able to start up in OS 9?

I *think* that the answer is yes, that OS 9 startup is dependent on the firmware or other voudou in the machine, related to its date of manufacture and not the particularly OS X system it's running. In this case, it's a July 2002 vintage machine...

Yes, you should still be able to boot into OS 9 if the machine has that ability. The only thing that would be different would be that you would now have Tiger instead of Jaguar.
