os 9

Hope you guys can help me. I have loaded osx into my g4 and added 512 of memory to my 128 for a total of 640. The OSX is not working with my AGFA studioscan II scanner (not in classic either). If I change my startup disk to the old os9 - the scanner works again. So I have decided to keep working in the old os9 till I buy a new USB scanner. Here is my problem - In my old os9 I am no longer able to allocate memory to any programs and I am not longer able to restart the computer (under "special" it either empty trash or shutdown). Any thoughts on why this has happened?
Thanks
Jim

ps...I am new at this mac stuff!

If you use your scanner alot, you will need to stay in OS 9 for a while. Very few scanner drivers have been released for OS X. You could check to see it VueScan will work with your scanner. Check versiontracker.com for it.

As for the problem... are you sure you booted in OS 9 ? Go to the Control Panels and select Start Up disk. Select OS 9 and click on restart. It could be that you have a lock on the OS X side active.
Another idea is that you have logged in using Multiple users. You need to be owner/administrator in order to do anything.

Cheryl - I am sure its OS9 and there are not Multiple users. How do I "unlock" the OSX side?

Thanks

JIM
