UPDATE: NO NEED TO READ THIS NOVEL
I tried what I wrote:
From OS 9.2.2 I went into the OS X system folder and removed all adaptec .kext, I removed the adaptec 2906 folder in my recipts folder, and I removed the el-gato scsi helper.kext. Started right up. I want to see which ones did it, and will play with them to find out. But now I know for sure... something is really bad with one of them, and I bet it is adaptec.

When I try to boot OS X off of my local drive it will not start. I do not get any visual/text errors at all. The happy face mac appears, the beach ball spins maybe 1 1/2 times and freezes, just like that. This happened right after I ran a uninstall terminal script that came with the Adaptec 2906 SCSI card beta driver img. (I was trying to get my external CDR to work in OS X).
I came onto the board here and read a few threads about similar situations so...
I disconnected all devices except for my keyboard. This included my external CDR, an external Belkin USB Hub, my handspring dock, and my Microsoft Intellimouse Optical. Restarted into OS X. Still freezes the same way. Again, I have not received any visual error messages.
I also tried:
1) Starting up FROM the OS X CD and ran disk utility - after verification it reported nothing wrong. Restarted, frozen again.
2) Starting up FROM the OS 9.2 CD and ran Disk First Aid - after verification it reported nothing wrong. Restarted, frozen again.
3) Starting up ON the local drive under OS 9.2.2 and ran Disk First Aid - after verification it reported nothing wrong. Went to startup disk, restarted into OS X, frozen again.
4) After reading the previous posts under this topic, held down command + s. A screen with system text popped up but nothing happened and I was unable to enter any text or commands. (This screen appears to freeze as well, only after identifiying some system info)
5) Tried Norton System Works from a cd while in OS 9.1.2 on local drive. It found huge errors with the sytem and structures, and said it repaired them. Restarted, again, frozen.
It just plain freezes! What else can I do? I burned a backup cd of my data in OS 9. Do I have to reinstall? If so, will it erase the data in my users' folder?
Can I throw away or move an .kext from the system folder through OS 9? If so, which ones? I still see some adaptec ones that were in the sytem, and I also have the el-gato CDRW helper installed. Could this be causing it? Sorry for the long post! Thanks BIG TIME, ahead of time.
