OS X InstallFest

OK everyone

I have a great idea - ok I actually borrowed it from the Linux guys....

As a recent convert (bought a cube in 2000, sat idle until OS X) to the Mac World (linux/unix/win9x/nt previously) for home use I think we are missing out helping others around us to understand, appreciate and enjoy the Mac world, what you can do with the Mac, and of course, how to install and get up and running on OS X

In the Linux world, SVLUG in the bay area has once a month Installfests where you can bring your equipment to a specified location (used to be Computer Literacy Bookstores - now they are gone) and you could get assistance in installing and optimizing your Linux distro you brought along with you.

Everything is free, you get to meet a lot of new and interesting people, and you got to learn ALOT.

I am proposing (and I am willing to be the first host of) a Bay Area MAC OS X Installfest. Now I am not an expert like most of you in OS X, but I can hold my own. I would be willing (if the group was small enough) to hold it at my house in San Jose, or if the group was large enough I can use my firms office building on a saturday (down by Silver Creek and 101) or we could find a more suitable central location.

If you are interested, let me know, it would be great to have something together (even if we only install one or two systems) for the month of Jan

Beyond just installfests, we could also have, Digital Camera day (how to install, use, etc your camera with OS X)

No, if this sounds like a silly idea, let me know and I will go back to being a lurker ;)

Thanks

well, i'm not sure i understand the idea completely. I am not going to haul the imac around. but the idea of some of us getting together and learning hands on more about the ins and outs of osx sounds pretty good to me. I know there is a lot of this terminal stuff that i might get more comfortable with if someone were literally standing over my shoulder helping me learn. On the other hand I possess close to 15 years of mac experience and would be happy to show Linux converts the ropes around classic and what long time mac users expect from their gui. so aside from any scheduling conflicts you could count me in i think.

I would acctually love to come and help out and learn more I think it sounds like a good idea. Dont know if I would want to lug around my 19 inch Mitsubishi monitor but I could grab the G4.
