OS X loses airport connectivity?

Hey all-

I have a Sawtooth G4/450 connected to my network via an Airport card and base station (the older grey one). I've been dilligent in upgrading both the drivers and the firmware of the cards, and everything is up to date. The problem is that occasionally, infrequently, the signal drops to nothing, and all connectivity to the outside world is lost. The problem typically rectifies itself within a few minutes, but if I was downloading something, or running something remotely, those sessions are broken and in one case, required recompiling a program that I had already spent an hour on.

I've never had this happen while in MacOS 9 on the same machine (though I admit I have been spending less and less time in it :) ), and I have an original ibook that also has an airport card, and I've never seen it lose connectivity

Is there any rules of thumb or tips to diagnose this problem? I've noticed that the speakers easily pick up the cab drivers talking on their CBs outside, so I'm wondering if the connection is just being interfered with somehow.

Thanks for any info.

It does sound like interference. Watch out especially for microwave ovens and 2.4gHz cordless phones, but from what you say I suspect a passing taxi might be the culprit. It doesn't sound like a software problem, so all you can really do is try to experiment a bit - is there something at either the mac or the base station that might be interfering or blocking?
