OS X Startup Disc Full?

Lately my OS has been crashing and making me restart my computer but as of yesterday I started getting messages that my startup disc was almost full and then Itunes deleted all my songs. I managed to get them back, but I'd like to fix this problem....Will buying more hard drive space solve this problem? I don't mind buying it rather than having to free up a bunch of space as long as this will solve the problem...

You need to have at least 15 % of free space on teh system hard drive for it to work properly.
So 15 % of 10 GB = 1.5 GB or more, of 100 GB = 15 GB or more, 500 GB = 75 GB or more...
Otherwise the system can't clean and maintain itself healthy (any more than I could keep the floor clean if there is less than 15 % of the floor space available to walk..)
Get more empty space. Stuff you don't need on the drive all the time can go to some external drive.

You can use a program such as carbon copy cloner (http://www.bombich.com/) to migrate to a new drive. Depending on your setup, you might just want to get an external drive. iTunes will work with the library on an external drive.
