OS X startup question

Hello all,

Just the other week I purchased an iBook G4 (12"). During the last two startups before the large apple icon, a small gray box flashed in the middle of the screen with a globe of the world picture inside of it. Then after that flashed 3 or 4 times another picture, this time a folder with the OS 9 graphic (on the folder) flashed followed by a question mark. I didn't touch anything ( or at least I don't think I did). Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any advice or comments,

Mike

Yeah, I think so. If you can get into OS X, go to System Preferences, such as from the Apple menu.

Select "Startup Disk."

Select your system disk. It should read something such as "Mac OS X 10.3.x on Macintosh HD" or whatever you've renamed your hard disk to.

Click the padlock to avoid accidental changes. Make sure you know your system password, though.

Credit goes to MacAddict, where I read this information. I think.

What happened? I _think_ your startup disk wasn't set so your Mac looked all over for a network drive, for OS 9, etc.
