OS/X Video Conferencing with Yahoo?

Hi,

I just can't find a straight answer anywhere. I'm looking at possibly purchasing a logitech zoom silver that supports OS/X.

Logitech mentions you can add video, but doesn't clearly state video with audio (full A/V conferencing).

Simple question, will the logitech zoom silver allow me to use full A/V audio & video conference using Yahoo, with PC users using Yahoo?

I'm running into this "Apple" delima where 1) iSight doesn't support USB nor does it support Yahoo 2) PC users using AIM or MSN can't video conference with MAC users using iChat --- 3) and the flip side heard that a USB cam on Yahoo for MAC only does video without sound. I'm wanting to provide video conferencing support between myself and my clients, most of which use PC's and Yahoo.

I'm really a bit peeved that Apple is locking users into "having" to purchase their iSight hardware. That's like Ford saying you can only buy 1 specific brand of tire for your truck.

The current Yahoo! messenger client for mac doesn't provide any audio chat feature no matter if you are using a USB webcam, firewire webcam or the isight. You can only use text and video chat. This problem is not apple related.

Just a short notice on your second dilemma: you can video/audio chat between ichatav and a pc aim account. What you need is the most recent aol messenger on the pc side. Search the forum for this topic to learn more about it.

Yeah, but I have to buy a firewire / iSight to be able to use ichat unless I purchase iChatUSB.

I might just have to go with iVisit, I just found the product info. I'll have to pay an annual subscription, but, it would pay itself off the first time I don't have to drive 20 miles to make a 5 minute fix to a clients computer.

Yahoo!'s use of the proprietary TrueSpeech codec is what limits voice chat on the mac platform (or any other non-x86 based one) through their IM service.

Yeah, regarding point #2, you can chat from iChat to PC AIM. It's announced here over a year ago:

Plus, you don't have to use just iSight. My mom uses another type of cam (USB), and is able to chat both via Yahoo Messenger and iChat. Although you need to download iChatUSBCam, which I think costs something like $9, to use a USB cam with iChat. Annoying I know, but i does work. It may not work as smoothly as an iSight, but still very much worth it.

You can download iChatUSBCam from here:
