OS9 airport help

I got an iMac G3 and I'm trying to get it connected to the internet via airport. (I use my desktop as the base station--it has an airport card and I'm able to use my laptop to connect). I have the airport card and software installed in the iMac and the computer is recognizing the connection and it shows a signal, but when I try to open a browser, I get an error message: "Netscape is unable to create a network socket connection" and in Explorer "an attempt to load 'Accessing URL: http://livepage.apple.com/' failed". These are Explorer 5 and Netscape 4.77. I'm sure these are older browsers if not obsolete but they are what was on the computer...I was going to download updated software once I got it up and running. I suspect that's not the issue though. The iMac is running OS 9.2.2 and I don't want to update it to os X. I had a similar problem when I was trying to get the laptop connected and had to change my security settings, but since the laptop is OSX I can't match the settings. Any ideas?

I would have to agree with DJ, also because I'm guessing your other computer is running Mac OS X. By now there are so many compatibility issues between the two now, especially with the old wireless B AirPort. You would probably have to buy a separate Access Point or Router just to get it to function properly.

Don't confuse the OP. Wireless-B is fine. There should be no compatibility issues with this protocol. His issue is that he is trying to connect using ancient browsers. There is hope, however. Classilla is a Gecko-based browser that is currently supported for those who prefer their multitasking to be cooperative.
