Is there/where is the OS9 installer for the new G4s? I need to install OS9 on several User machines who cant run OSX just yet. I realize I *could* use the software restore feature, but what if I dont want all the extraneous crap that it dumps onto the HD?

Anybody know where I can get a bootable OS9 install CD for these new monsters?

You can try Mac Warehouse or Shreve Systems. They may have some in the back somewhere.

Why do you need to install OS 9. It should be on those computers already. Just go to the Start up panel in the system - that's the light switch in the dock. From there, just select OS 9, then restart. It will boot in OS 9 and you then can keep it like that by going to the start up control panel (in OS 9) and select OS 9.

It will then stay that way, until you change it.

Don't bother ordering the old 9 CD's for the new G4 dual processors. They do NOT work. I boot off them and when I try and run the installer it says it can not be installed on this machine. I tried with these 3 different CD and all the same result.

MAC OS 9.2.2 for G4 Version 1.0
MAC OS 9.2.2 for G4 Version 1.1
MAC OS 9.2.2 for Powerbook Version 1.2

Using Retrospect Backup is useless also. (note: I haven't tried with the update that was released today) When I did a "Restore an entire disk" both Jaguar and OS 9 weren't bootable. I had to reinstall Jaguar on top of what I copied with Retrospect and that worked. Obviously it didn't work with 9 - wierd thing is Classic runs fine. I've never had any problems with Retrospect restoring bootable systems on hard drives and firewire drives.

As a last resort I got out the Software Restore CD's. All you need is the first CD to install OS 9.

Guess what - It worked. Those bastards at Apple. I can boot into 9 now. Of course I had to go thru and delete all the crap that they install in there with it which took a while and for some reason the Finder takes 2 minutes and 40 seconds to come up which is rediculous.
