OS9 to OS X Networking Problems

I've been running a network using 2 macs, one running System 9 & the other running OS X 10.4, until recently everything has been running fine, but now when I to connect from my OS 9 mac to the OS X mac & try to copy something across the network I get the messages "The File Server connection has unexpectedly closed down" & it lists the date & time of the close down, I also get the message. Then I also get the message "The selected files can no longer be copied because the server has closed down".
I have been running this network for over 3 years now without a single error then suddenly out of the blue this happens, i think it must be a System 9 error as when I'm running both computers in OS X the network works fine.
This problem is a real pain as I have to regularly copy large photoshop files from one to the other & am currently having to copy them to & from using zip disks, any help with this problem would be a real godsend.

If you have been connecting from your MacOS 9 computer to your MacOS X computer for three years, then you know that it works. I can verify that this is indeed true. The fact that it stopped working means that something is wrong. The issue is what is wrong. I have had times when AppleTalk refused to connect following an external network disruption. Only you know what has happened on your network prior to your current unpleasantness. The rest of us are left to wild guesses.

As a first attempt to fix things, reset your router. Then try to reestablish your connection from scratch. If this doen't do the trick, then come back with some information.

The initial connection is there because I can connect to the other computer, its only when I try to copy something to or from it the connection shuts down.
It has to be something to do with OS 9, because as i mentioned, when i run both machines in OS X, the network runs fine.

I have managed to fix the problem, the drag & drop extension wasn't loaded, the get info told me that it wasn't required if i was running system 7.5 or above.

I am having this exact same problem and desperately looking for a solution. I can connect it is only when I try to copy that it drops connection. Very small files under half a meg seem to go through. Larger drop connection immediately. It did work before the 10.4.9 update. 10.4.10 did not fix it. Need to be able to connect my os 9.2.2 to os x 10.4.9. Apple broke something here. I need to know more about this drag & drop extension and if maybe you could email it to me please.

The connection was working fine for about 3 days & then it started to do the same thing again, even with that extension installed.
The problem must be caused by something else, i'm going to connect another OS9 computer to the network, to see if it definately a OS X fault.
I will keep you updated
