OSX 10.1.2 Hangs when creating a directory

I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, I couldn't find one in the tread, so I thought I'd bring this to light.

Since my upgrade to 10.1.2, I cannot create a directory without seeing my beachball for more than a minute. It's very annoying. I'm a web developer, so I am constantly creating multiple folders.

My patience with this operating system is wearing thin. I am now "working around" more and more items with every "upgrade"... and for what? The privilage of running osx?

Don't misunderstand me, I am a true Apple/OSX fan. I sell my friends on it everyday, but I can only work around so many things before my productivity comes to a screaching hault. This directory thing, by itself, probably wouldn't bother me... but add it to:

1) Slow window resizing
2) Serious Lag time loggin on to the local os9 machines on my LAN
3) not being able to stay connected to the os9 machines for more than a few minutes at a time
4) Unsupported software
5) Not being able to print to the 2 out of the three printers in my department
6) and all the other blah blah blah you've heard it all before things...

I tell ya, I wouldn't make it without a place like press3.com to vent every now and again.

I know if I sat down and listed all of the positives and the negatives I'd probably could settle for the operating system, but I don't kwow, as a consumer, should I have to settle?

I'm willing to pay a little extra for the finer things in life. My dad always told me when I was growing up "don't be afraid to buy the best" That's why I convinced my dad to buy us a Macintosh in 1984, and that's why I've been buying the computer since then.

I'm not getting what I paid for, I'm not getting the best operating system on the market. Don't get me wrong, it's on it's way to being the best operating system, but anyone saying it's the best on the market is not listening the growning number of mac loyalists, like myself, screaming for Apple to get off their ass, clear away the smoke and mirrors, and build me an operating system that allows me to do such advanced features like.... oh, creating a directory and resizing my windows without seeing a beach ball spinning.

Oh it might be relivant to point out that I am on a DUAL G4 533MHZ with 384MB of ram installed.

Do you mean simply hitting Command-Shift-N in the Finder, or using the "mkdir" command in a Terminal window? Or something else entirely? Because I can do the first two virtually instantaneously on my 350MHz slot-loading iMac.

genghiscohen, I mean hitting Command-Shift-N in the Finder. The creation of the directory isn't my actually where my lagtime is. I've noticed, since my post this morning that it's when I try to modify the name of the folder titled "untitled" that actually sends my computer into a beachball frenzy.

y can't u b connected to ur OS 9 macs for longer then a few minutes?
I have 2 performas wit OS 9 and OS 8 in my network, and it ain't a problem to stay connected to them even for days (if os 8 won't crash during this time)... :)

btw, did u do a clean install of OS X 10.1 or did u just update? maybe the folder problem just tries to tell u that its now time to do a clean reinstallation.
before i did this, i wuz also having some pretty annoying difficulties when workin wit os x. after doin a clean install, everythings just fine now :)
