osx 10.3.9 glitch on Imac G5 :(

I have a glitch on my imac the os crashes and the screen goes to a repetive pattern on the screen so i turn it of by the off button (lol) and on boot up (when it says it is loading personal settings) the mouse freezes and sort of splits up then it goes back.

i shut the computer down and zapped the p-ram and we haven't experienced this again
please can somebody tell me if i have done the right thing if i haven't please tell me the right thing to do

Restart the Mac in open firmware (hold down command>option>O>F keys while switching on). At the prompt enter reset nvram and press enter followed by reset all followed by enter. The Mac should restart automatically.
