OSX not running properly

ever since i downloaded the latest software update, my computer hasn't been the same - it's extremely slow and freezes up when i try to close a window. also, i am unable to drag my desktop icons...i've restarted numerous times and the same thing happens. i'm pretty sure it's been this way since the software update.

if you have any suggestions, please pass them along! thanks in advance.
