Last night I downloaded the latest software update for my Macbook (currently running 10.4.10). Once the software had downloaded and started the installation process, I received an error that stated that the installation had failed and I could try to reinstall the update by using finder and installing the update manually.
After reading the error message, I noticed the update was for 10.5.1. Considering I am not running Leopard, I thought this was a problem. I rebooted my machine and now it hangs at the splash screen and the "wheel" keeps spinning.
When I boot into verbose mode, I receive the error (see attached for complete error message):
Load of /sbin/launchd, errno 88, trying /sbin/mach_init
Load of /sbin/launchd failed, errno 88
I have used the disk utility to try to alter permissions and I have done a disk check.
Can I try to rollback the update (if so, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated)? Should I try to install the 10.4.11 update manually?
Why would I have received the 10.5.1 update if I am not running Leopard?
Thank you.
