OSX + X System Sounds, How to change, where to get.

I'd like to know where to get new system sounds or just some newer better sounding dinks and doinks for X (Gnome) and also for OSX. By the way, how do you get rid of that annoying sound when you change the volume? Also how would you set sys-sounds up on OSX?

I could google, but this might be worth listing here.

Thanks.

Where to get sounds? The internet. Look for aiff files. (aka 'Uh, I dunno' ;) )

Turn off the volume change sound? Look at this thread.

Set up system sounds? If you want global sounds (all users can see them) put your sounds in /Library/Sounds. If you want to be the only one to see them, put the sounds in /Users/username/Library/Sounds. Sound files need to be aiff files, with .aiff extension (.aif files are not recognized, from what I have heard).

You can find a number of new sounds on line, or even create them yourself. Just make sure you follow nkuvu's advice and give them the .aiff extension.
I recorded some of my own sounds, and now my warning "beep" is me saying "Oh rats!" in an exasperated tone of voice.
;)

Yeah -- I tried recording a system sound from my tortoise. Here, I'll play it for you:

See? Not much of a point, really. ;)
