I am presently unable to connect with iChat or some other IM software and I think I need to modify the open port settings in Apple's firewall within the "Sharing" Systems Preference panel. But when I try and access the firewall settings I get a message saying, "Other Firewall Software is running on your computer...To change the Apple firewall settings, turn off the other firewall software."
I do not have any other specific firewall software running and I can't think what may have changed since I last used these IM services. I have checked other programs to see if they may be interfering, closing down everything else to be sure. I've also deleted the preference file called com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist and restarted just in case this was corrupt. But no joy with any of these attempted solutions.
I'd appreciate any suggestions or guidance as to how to track down whatever is preventing me from modifying Apple's firewall settings.
(It would of course be helpful if the Sharing panel's message actually indicated the name of the process which is preventing the firewall settings being modified, assuming that is the case.)
I am running 10.3.9 on a PowerBook G4 1.5GHz.
