Other WMs under Apple's X11

I'm trying to get another X window manager (fluxbox) to work under OS X. Not that I don't like quartz-wm but it's doesn't offer much utility. I've tried adding "exec fluxbox &" to ~/.xinitrc after dowloading it from OpenDarwin's CVS repository but it seems to cause problems for Apple's X implementation. Any suggestion that doesn't involve downloading Fink?

EDIT : Hmmm... X11 ran twm when "twm" was in .xinitrc but fluxbox still doesn't work, X11 just flashes and quits.
 
yeah, I got that too when trying out gnome. It's probably because your path is not set right so it can't find the app. You'll be able to see the error message in console.app. That might help. But I use fink, got Blackbox and it's sweet and simple. Gnome 2.6 gave me a headache and still didn't work right.
