I overwrote the beginning of my MacBook's HFS+ partition using the dd command with appx 1GB of data. I am assuming that my data is still there somewhere and am looking for advice on how to recover it the data in my user directory (and my Adobe license files). I assume that the root directory info is gone.
In the old days I used to recover FAT/FAT32 data (though, not when 1GB of leading data is missing). I do not know enough about HFS+ to know how difficult it might be to reconstruct the data structures necessary to get to my user data. Better yet, if there are some good tools to help with the recovery.
Someone recommended UFC Explorer (http://www.ufsexplorer.com/download.php)--it has a trial version to verify whether it will retrieve what I am looking for. I have not yet tried it. I have heard good things of DiskWarrior as well, but they do not have a trial version.
