Pages Inspector won't open.

I have iWork '09 and upgraded to Snow Leopard about a month ago. I noticed only yesterday that, in Pages, the Inspector window refuses to open - not when I click the icon, nor when I select 'Show Inspector' from the view menu.

Ditto in Numbers, with the added weirdness: When I click the $ icon to format a selected column, I get the beachball for 4 or 5 seconds and then the application quits.

Any ideas?

We had lively exchange about this at Apple Discussions. I got a lot of advice but, in the end, this is what solved the problems:

• trash iWork application folder
• trash iWork personal plists
• trash iWork system application support
• trash iWork personal application support
• Reinstall iWork from DVD
• Apply most recent updates

I still have no idea what I did to cause it.
