Is there an easy way to refresh the preferences for the network without shutting down? I was struggling to connect to a share on an admittedly poorly configured mixed network with Mandrake, ME and 98 machines. Attempts to transfer files only moved them to a strange place on my iBook (runs 10.3.2). (Http services were working normally.)
I couldn't get the dhcp lease to renew and even a restart didn't get me straightened out. Connection to the internet was fine, but trying to connect to my usual shares was not. At one point, Finder wouldn't let me click on the Network Icon saying I didn't have the access privileges - though I am the admin of the book. I repaired permissions just in case, still no soap. It was only after I pulled the Network Icon out of the sidebar, restarted and then put it back that things started working correctly again.
There's gotta be an easier way.
