I bought a stick of 512 for my iBook, and it was not a name brand stick of memory. It was making panther freeze, mess up on startup, and even had a few kernal panics. I think it was a bad stick so their going to send me another. Even though its not name brand will it still work with panther given that its not a bad stick this time?

it has not much to do with panther but your hardware. Esspecially portable macs are very allergic to bad ram. You might be lucky and you got a faulty memory, but I believe you will have to go for brand names such as Infinity, Samsung, Crosair... Read some issues about Kingston ram, so try to skip these.
But who knows? Maybe your no name memory will do finally.
