I've been running OSX.1 for some time loaded onto one drive in a G4 Agp Mac while having classic OS 9.2.2 loaded on another.
Just recently I upgraded to OSX.3 (panther).
And now the mac won't start up .
I get the happy sound and the screen activates but only opens as far as the grey screen with the large apple in the middle...and there it sits...doing nothing.

I can start up from disc but only to access the other drive and then restart in OS 9.2.2 and there sfter it will start up as normal...but only in OS 9.2.2.

I've reloaded the operating discs and the onscreen says that loading was successful and it then restarts in Panther...but once I shut down then I'm back to square one and the static screen.

What can I do???????? :(

What kind of install did you do? If you did the upgrade, you have a totally confused system as you have some 10.1 with 10.3.

Start up the computer using the Panther OS Cd. At the installer screen go to the Installer Menu and select Disk utility. Have it check out the drive with Panther on it. Run it a second time just to make sure it catches all the problems.

Now quit Disk Utility, and follow the prompts to install - Use the Archive and Preserve. This will place a clean fresh system on your machine and rename the old one Previous system.

Before installing any third party software - check for updates. Panther is different from 10.1. Enhancers, especially like a font manager, Safari enhancers and screen savers. Check your anti virus program and firewall, also.
