Partition Types or Which to use when using Disk Utility App to partition Windows NTFS

Hello! I found an old external Seagate 100gb drive that I had used a while back for backup on a laptop that was stolen from me. Anyhow, to make a long story sort of short. For the life of me I cannot remember what was so important that I just had to keep on that drive. SO, when I hooked it up to a 32mb pc, it said that it had to be reformatted in order to to become useable, same message when I hooked it up on my 64mb PC. Since, I cannot remember what it was that I was hanging onto, I went ahead and reformatted it on the 64mb pc. However, I want to use it to back up iphotos and other items for my Macbook pro. I opened up the disk utility app and hooked it up and it was found by Mac. The problem is that I do not know the best way to partition it or get it ready for my Mac and which of the many options that I have to choose from in the disk utility app. If I select in finder to get info about the drive it says it is a Windows NT file system (NTFS) 100gb but under sharing and permissions is says I can only read. But, I already reformatted it. I have a PowerMacG4 with a 500gb hard drive but, I would rather have an easier way of storing these files in lieu of transferring to usb from here to there. I would like to know please, what would be the best way to prepare the drive for iphoto and Mac files. Thank you for help.[/FONT

In disk utility select the drive in the left hand column (not the volume but the drive itself, it will have 100GB Seagate...). Then you will have tabs along the center of the disk utility window. Select partition.

Under partition you'll see a volume scheme drop down box that says current. Click it and select 1 partition.

Next under volume information, for a name, call it what you want.

Below name is a format drop down box. Make sure Mac OS Extended (journaled) is selected.

Next part is very important and overlooked by many. There is an options menu. Click it and select GUID button for your partition scheme.

Once all these selections have been made click Apply.

This will make the drive read/write ready and also available for Time Machine use, if you choose to use the built in Time Machine option to fully back up your macbook pro (although the drive only being 100GB it may be better to get a larger external HD). Furthermore, as a warning, the drive being partitioned and formatted this way will NOT make it recognized with your Windows PCs.
