PB 12" vs PM 867, your comments are welcome

which one would YOU buy ?

Hi everybody,

In Switzerland, PB 12" and PM 867 come for exactly the same price: 2999 CHF. Now which one should one choose ?

PM 867 is probably partially faster (2 CPU, faster disk).

PB 12" is not much slower (how much does the second CPU really add), but includes BlueTooth and WiFi... and can be carried !

PM867 has a DVI output (is it really better), an ADC output (i don't have an Apple flat screen), more I/Os.

PB 12" is quiter and connects to my Samsung flatscreen.

Both have the newest RAM technology and G4, both can be bought with SuperDrive.
 
I'd get the Power Book for two reasons:
I already have a Power Mac :p

I've been wanting to get a Portable becase it sucks being stuck to this desk all the time.

To be able to sit on the sofa, take it outside, take it with me when I go to a client's place...
I almost regret getting a tower - but then again there wasn't any Power Books I wanted when I bought my Mac... now it's a totally different story - but I'm not getting rid of my Mac! :p :)
 
well, apple is going to update the PM line eventually and the lowend PM should stay the same price but will likely be faster and with all the updates the new PB has.
 
the second processor speeds things up quite a bit, actually. OS X makes use of both of them quite a bit. this system is much faster than the imac g4 800... so i'd imagine it was faster than the 12" pb, too. do a search for benchmarks on macosx.com. we all submitted our results from a benchmarking program, so you should see the results there. the larger L3 cache helps a lot as does the system architecture.
 
I suppose the PM offers more raw power and expandability, but it all depends on your needs.

I need to be able to carry around my computer a lot and at the same time use it as main "desktop" computer at home, so the obvious choice for me is the 12"PB.

Seriously, if I did not have a mac on my work desk, then I would get the powerbook so that I could shuttle it around with me :), since I do have a mac on my work desk, it might be worth while to get the pwoermac since its expandable and everything, however I dont spend much time home because of work and classes...oh man what a deillema ;)
 
Depends... i need mobility, thus PB. Unless you don't REALLY need the mobility and need some really heavy stuff to run in it (maya etc) .. PMs look nice. But i'd opt for mobility :)
