im running a asmall home network with a2 pc boxs and a mac. my mac sees all but the pcs both cant login to the mac. ive done a disk repair and im all up to date. my pc can see th ebox but cant login to anyhting i just get denied. should i just try dave? or at one tiem i had user names the same on both machines would that have caused a conflict on the mac end? thanks

I don't think DAVE would help, that helps a Mac login to a widows network which if I have understood correctly is not your problem. Your best bet is too install Samba on the Mac which should enable you to authenticate with it and access files.

Are you accessing them using the username and passwords of the users located in Mac OS X? If you do, you'll notice that you might have access to the Home Folder as well as some public folders. If you are using a Windows NT based OS, then you will br prompted for username and password. If you are using Win9x, then you would be better off creating an account on the OS X machine based on the username Windows 9x is logging in as. I hope that didn't sound too confusing...

Before all that, have you gone into System Preferences-->Network in OS X?? In there, you should find something about enabling Windows Sharing. Check to make sure that's enabled before anything.

You might also have to play around with some permissions on the OS X box if you want to share any other folder that might not be located in the user's home folder or in any publicly accessible folders.
