PC / Appletalk network problem

Hi everyone! I'm sure this is quite basic for most of you, but I never work with PCs and am totally out of my depth. How can I delete a PCs current network setup and then reconnect it to my appletalk network? It doesn't even have to be able to talk to the other computers - I'm just trying to get it on the internet. Thank you!!!

Hi Jennifer

(forgive me if you know all of this). First off I presume the pc is wired to a network (hub, switch, router etc), appletalk is just a protocol for sharing files between macs, smb for windows etc, now your internet access device (cable modem, dsl) will have an IP address (this will be your gateway), if your gateway uses DHCP it should be pretty simple for the PC to pick up it's an address.

Go to the start menu and then to control panels and look for network connections (ensure the pc is wired to the network), if you see local area connections in the menu right click on this and onto properties, under the general tab scroll down to Internet Protocol and click on properties again, there's an Obtain IP address automaticall radio button, click this if your gateway is using dhcp (you may be able to check this by checking the network settings on your mac) if not then you'll manuall have to assign an IP address, subnet mask etc, copy the settings from your mac but please ensure that the ip addresses final 3 digits are different and not the same as any of the other machines. Try this out and let me know how you get on.

PS if you are going on the net with the PC make sure you have good virus software (AVG it's free), anti spyware and use firefox instead of IE.
