I have a two Macs and an HP LaserJet 5M on my LAN, connected by a Netgear MR 314 router. I know the LaserJet has a Jetdirect card in it; it also has automatic switching, so PCs and Macs can both print to it.
My brother was visiting with his laptop running Windows 2000 Pro and was unable to find my printer via ethernet (but he could access my DSL connection). In the end, he had to dig out a parallel cable and connect directly to the printer.
Why is it that the Macs can print, but the PC can't? Are Macs just better?
