PCI Extreme Question

Howdy,

i recently installed "PCI Extreme", which can be found here:

http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=16006&db=macosx

My Configuration is a G4/450, with 640MB, a Ati Rage 128 and a ATI Radeon 7000 PCI. Since Quartz Extrem only works on AGB Cards, "PCI Extreme" makes it possible to activate QE for PCI-Cards as the Radeon 7000.

This works, but ... I'm not sure if this is a good Idea for optimal Performance in 10.2. Since the Switch from 10.1.5 to Jaguar I didn't really noticed radical Speedups, mainly because 10.1.5 already worked fairly well on my machine. Sure 10.2 is overall better, an maybe a little faster, its hard for me to put a finger on it.

Since activating QE the Performance ist slightly faster in the GUI, smooter at the least (Wallpaperchange without any Performancelags) but i'm still not really sure that this is it.

How are your Experiences with PCI Extreme? Is it better not to use it? Are there any good Tests or Experiments to make sure there are real Benefits of Activating QE on this Kind of Machine (-> G4/450)

Thanx,
Sammy

There is an improvement but its not drastic.

I have a B&W G3 450 with the ATI 7000 PCI card in the graphics slot and the OEM ATI in the slot next to it.

With the Quarts Extreme check app, My ATI 7000 card shows it has Quarts Extreme Active and my OEM does not.

Benifits seen:
-Browser scroll speed not that significant, maybe 2-3 frames more.
-Quake 3 arena biggest increase 8-10 frames.
-Warcraft 3 was marginal but enough to make it more playable with alot of units on the board.
-all OpenGL demos in developer tools show fluid improvements.
-terminal app acts like I don't even have transparency on.(resizing still a little slow tho)
-Desktop pictures on random now fad in when they change (SWEET).
-Dock is more fluid.
-More fluid screen savers.

Draw backs:
-Funny Green and purple frames show on some mpegs in the picture frame and when adjusting volume. not there while playing tho. but if you previewing by picture frame, can't always make out the movie without playing.
-For whatever reason Wolfenstine frame rates are down slightly... think this app saturates the PCI bus. My Wolfenstine experience might be scewed by the fact that I have a Tempo 100 IDE controler on the first PCI slot so might not have all the PCI bandwidth used for Video card.

On a side know I have more drives than I can power with my OEM Power supply anyone know a good replacement for the B&W G3's... Just want to add one more drive and maybe a stronger fan to keep the temperature right in there.

CoolHead...
