Permission denied

I get the following message when I try and open Sybase Central among other things.
"You do not have permission to open the application Sybase Central."
I'm running Sybase ASE 12.5.4 on a mac book pro. Mac OS 10.6
How can I give myself permission?
I'm also a brand new Mac user.

Does that same user you are logging to (the database login that is) work from another system?
Does any other database login work from that system? Something known and tested.
Can any user log in to the database from any system?
Did it ever work from that system?

DB user login, user or db permissions, or something with that one application, or something not set correctly on the server... those will help nail down where the cause could be.
