Pesky startup item

I installed hp printer software on my PB and every time I log on I find an icon for Hp Director in the Dock. I've gone to my startup items and removed it, but this seems not to have worked. Is there anything else I can edit to fix this?

Do you only find the icon or is the app started? Simply drag the icon out of your dock and if the application is not launched, you shouldn'T see the icon anymore.

It's just the icon. I've dragged it out of the dock on several occasions, but the next time I log on i'ts back in the dock.

Make a screenshot of your dock. Now go to home/Library/Preferences and move the file com.apple.dock.plist to your - let's say - Desktop. Make sure you don't copy it but move the file out there. Now log out and log in again and you should have the default dock. Open the screenshot from your dock and add the icons the way you want them to be. This should be restart-proved, I hope.

Go to Applications -> Hewlett Packard -> HP Photo and Imaging Software -> HP Photo and Imaging Director and delete the file called "Director Docker." Then, delete the unwanted icon from your Dock and log

Next, edit the /Library/Preferences/loginwindow.plist file to remove the dict entry that launches the application.
