Please help a struggling student

Uber Nothing
Hey guys, I know this really isn't the place, but honestly I have run clean out of ideas. I have a project in my science class right now, and part of it is to identify a rock that i picked up off a beach in MI. I can't figure out for the life of me what it is. I have tried countless ways of identification, to no avail. Please give me some feedback on what you think it is....

Thanks, both of you. Mark- It might be Quartz, I'm not 100% sure, I'll have to ask the teach. Andrew- Good link, but it doesn't really identify this rock very well.

I have a good idea that this might be dolomite, which is a sedimentary rock containing crystals. The thing that really screws me up is that this sample looks completely different from the sample that my teacher said was the "same rock".

1 day left to throw together this PowerPoint... damn last 3 weeks of school.....

I have seen those before. That is a bit of "Leaverite" (leev-er-ite), at least that is what my granddad told me.

Most of the rocks I picked up as a kid were examples of Leaverite ;-)

My thoughts exactly, ziess. I'll find out tommorow and post it from school.

Thanks for the help.

Well, the results show that it is actually Quartzite with a large deposit of iron on it :D Thanks to all for helping me.

Now, off to work on the presentation... bwahahahahahaha.....
