A couple of months ago during a bad electrical storm I was inadvertedly on my eMac online when lightening struck really close to my house. I immediately unplugged the computer and disconnected it from the phone line but upon restart after the storm had passed found that my modem will not dial in. I get the message "Modem cannot detect dial tone". Checked out the phone line and it is good. Checked cable and it is fine. Ran the hardware test and on the quick one everything is fine but on the extended one it tells me there is a logic board error. The error reads "Error Code: 2GMC/3/13 built-in" I need to know what this means and how I go about fixing my computer. Everything else on the computer runs fine. I use it daily. Just cannot use the modem. Have looked at the modem and surrounding PCB and there seems to be no indication of damage. Please if someone could help me I would appreciate it.

A modem is very, very sensitive. I lost one because of lightening two blocks away. Then a second one went bye bye with a junky surge protector. I was lucky because both were under warranty.

Hence, a really good data surge protector from the phone jack will save you next time. Get one that has outlets to save your computer. I say next time because that internal modem needs to be replaced. :(
