My baby, my G4 DP 1 GHz was asleep at 4:11 Thursday here in CT when the power went down and now that my power is back up in my house it won't start. I'll try to be calm, but here is what is happening.
I press the power button and the button lights up, but no sound or activitity from the machine - no hard drive spinning up, silence. The button stays lit as long as I hold it, but it just won't start up. I tried different outlets in the room.
Do you think my power supply is blown? This computer was plugged into a good surge protector and nothing else in the house was damaged (other computers, eclectronics and stereo equipment) - though again, this Mac was asleep at the time of the black out while everything else was off.
The only other odd thing is just the other day I set the machine to restart after a power failure (how is that for a little foresight!). I doubt this is connected to my not starting issue, but you never know.
So, does anyone have any suggestions for how I isolate the problem here? Things I could/should try? Also, I have the replacement "quieter" power supply from Apple, but I never got around to installing it. Think that is worth a try?
Any and all help is much appreciated.
After yesterday with my poor wife stuck in a New York subway for two hours (under the East River), then her walking 5 hours to her mom's house (all while I had no idea where she was), a blown computer is no big deal, but still, I love my Mac and would like to get it up and running again.
