I've consolidated (iTunes 8.0.2) and notice that some songs won't play any more. When I look at the properties, some of them are pointing to files with the correct name but the incorrect extension (e.g. htm, tif, png). When I 'show in finder', these files with the strange extension actually exist in the album folder alongside the correct mp3 file.
I exported my library (File > Library > Export Library) with the idea of using a search of my iTunes folder (-mp3 -m4a -aif -wav so that I know the bad files). Then I wanted to do a find and replace in the xml file for the bad extensions, swap to mp3, and re-import. However, some of the bad files aren't in the xml. For example, my folder search indicates song files with PDF extensions, that I can find in iTunes itself, but I cannot find in the xml export file.
Any ideas how to fix it? I don't want to delete the wrong songs in the finder search window and reload them, as I have a huge library. Also, any ideas what might have gone wrong so I can avoid it in the future? Thanks very much for any suggestions.
