Postscript Font unavailable

Now I have been made redundant I have turned to my home Mac G5 to Freelance. I haven't done any graphics/typesetting since upgrading to OSX10.5. I discovered Extensis Suitcase X1 was not working well so paid to upgrade to Fusion 2.
I had purchased a Linotype Set of around 3000 styles months ago as well that expanded my requirements for fonts.
Now I find that all Postscript fonts will not work or even fail to load into the type manager. These include previous postscript personal fonts and the new Linotype ones!
Quark (v.6.5 Passport) crashes when attempting to make PDF or postscript files; Adobe Distiller now crashes when launching.
Freelance is my livelyhood now and I can't afford to keep buying software because of cross Apps problems nor lose money that's paying my mortgage. I thought the latest Leopard was supposed to be so stable...
All or some advice please!

If you can load the free version of FontExplorer I'd use that over all the other font management tools you mentioned: http://www.linotype.com/fontexplorer.

Are all your fonts in system/fonts or library/fonts? Have FE move everything but the required fonts out of your system fonts folders. This will speed performance. Have FE examine your fonts once you move them for any errors. Let it fix them.

Also, open FontBook and have it stop managing any and all fonts. This app SUCKS for font management.

Don't upgrade to 10.5.6; if you do you can experience weird issues that aren't yet resolved.
