Power a Laptop from an RV?

devil's plaything
Am looking for a good DC/DC converter to run either an iBook or PowerBook directly from an RV outlet, bypassing the AC adapter. While I know there are DC/AC inverters that can power a laptop (using the AC adapter), I am looking for a more energy efficient solution-- it doesn't make a lot of sense to me to convert DC to AC back to DC. (Also a friend of mine fried his iBook with a non pure sine wave inverter.) Have seen these DC/DC converters for non-Apple products, does anyone know if there are similar ones compatible with Mactops?

Thanx.

Edit: Found this Lind converter that is supposedly Macpatible. Anyone here ever use it?

The Apple Store has several 12v adapters on their website, including the Lind unit, an APC and a Kensington.

I'd give you a link, but the Apple store is notorious for creating big ugly single-use URLs for specific product pages. Look under "mobile gear".

Thanks. Looks like the Kensington is available at the best prices. Think the APC is an inverter.

So anyone try the Kensington? Need to know if it can be used for extended periods without overheating.
