Power Down from Sleep?

I have two questions.

For some reason, I haven't been getting the notice that I'm running on reserver power when my battery gets low (I'm running X.2.2). I didn't think it was possible to turn that off, but if I some how did turn that notification off, how do I get it back?!?

Secondly, I am terrible at remember to bring my power cord with me. So, if I don't get a notification, or for some reason choose to ignore it and my computer does go into the "forever sleep" mode, is there a way to tell the computer to shutdown? I can't change the battery without killing the power (grr...must save money for powerbook) and I really don't like improperly unmouting the file system.

If not, c'est la vie.

We can help more if you tell us what kind of PowerBook you have. You should be able to swap batteries when the PowerBook is unplugged because there is a little internal battery that can keep the PB asleep for about 1 minute when there isn't a power cord or battery plugged in.

I don't have a powerbook, I have an iBook.
Although I wish I had a powerbook.

Sorry for the confusion.
