Powerbook + AirPort = Cool

Yes, I know that I am VERY late to this game, but I'm finally here!

I've got the new powerbook and just returned from MacAdam with an AirPort. 10 minutes of configuration and I'm now on the net!

Since I am not doing any fileshareing or anything that requires a fast connection, I got the old AirPort instead of the new "extreme". The Extreme is faster than my DSL and I'm only using it with one portable, so there is little point of having it.

What was the price difference? Airport Extreme Base Stations allow you to connect an external antenna, and also plug a printer to the base station. The last time I looked for price comparisons, it was minimal. Around 25 bucks diff, I think.

It's $199 for the normal AirPort Extreme base station, and $249 for the high end model. The high end model has an antenna port to let you add on a 3rd-party adapater from Dr. Bott which lets you extend range up to 500 feet (!). Also lets you hook up and printer and had a modem.

Yes, but how much for the OUTDATED airport base station?

I just went to maczone.com and it listed the outdated base station for 199 bucks. The only plus on the outdated ABS versus the 199 bucks ABSE is that the outdated ABS comes with an internal modem.

I dont need the antenna, and have a network printer... so I didn't need that.

I errored on the side of getting it TODAY vs. comparing $, but still the old one was about $50 cheaper...($175 retail vs. $230)
