Powerbook G4 1.5Ghz Airport issues with open monitor

Has anyone had any issues with getting a good wireless signal with their 17" G4 Powerbook?

I can get a decent signal when the screen is 90 degrees open or less, but I lose all ssids when I open the screen more than 90 deg. This is a recent issue for me and I'd like to know if my airport card's anntenna may be loose, or if it's something worse.

I don't have the tools to open up my notebook right now, but I'll be taking a look this weekend.

thanks everyone,

If the antenna is the same as the G3 and G4 iBooks it runs in between the bracket joint from the base of the machine to the screen. It seems very likely that the cable could be getting tweaked as you level it out. You shouldn't have to dismantle it too much.. just get the casing off and check out the position of the cables..(if it's the same as the ibooks).

I'm fairly sure you are correct about the location of the antenna.

What's the worst case scenario? If the antenna is cut, do you think that running a new antenna along the inside of the case would get decent reception (i.e., not running the new one up the side of the monitor)?

I found the following site which has all the location details for the airport. I'm on the road right now and don't have access to my torx wrenches, so I can't fully remove the case.

Thanks stilbite for the info.
