Currently, someone is willing to buy my PowerBook G4/500 for $60,000 Taiwan Dollar ($1,714 USD). So should I sell it, spend some money and get myself a PB G4/550?

Is the graphic upgrade worth the upgrade?

Well, to start with, it depends what you use yer machine for. You play many games, or do other graphics-intensive stuff? Also, the 550 is a faster processor, and you get an airport card as standard, so it's not only about the graphics card. I don't know what the Taiwan dollar price difference is between what he's willing to pay you and what a new 550 would cost is.

Ask yourself one question (punk :) ). Is your TiBook slow? does it hamper your work/play? (OK, that's 2 questions) If not, why get a new one?

Basically, the advantages are there if the money seems right to you.

I'm glad to find you! This is what so great about the web.

I use only MacOS X on my PowerBook G4/500. I think even today OS 9 runs faster than OS X on this machine. I plan to get into the Photographing business, so I need the better graphic system.

If I were to buy a new PowerBook G4/550 with the money I get from my PB G4/500, then I would have to spend another $700 USD. Another $300 later, probably 8 to 10 months after my purchase date, for two more years of AppleCare.

Airport card is included in every PowerBooks now?

Thanks for your input.

The AirPort card is only standard on the 667 model.

This can be confirmed at the Apple Store online.

I would go for the 550MHz model if you plan to do graphical work. The upgraded graphic processor would really come in handy.
