Powerbook G4 Erased optical drive??

So i was messing around in the disk utility because my blank cd wasnt showing up (i found out why later) and I assumed it was because i needed to erase my "mashita cd/rw opti..." is what it said under the left menu. Anyway i started erasing it and I realized it wasnt the disk i was erasing but the drive its self! I cancled the erase 30 % into it and closed disk utility. Now when i open it back up it doesnt list my mashita optical drive anymore.. its just not there.

What damage have I done? How can i get my optical drive to appear on the column in my disk utility??

Also, reason for my edit, i see someone posted a similar post about a g4.. he didnt stress his optical drive doesnt show up under disk utility anymore.

The optical drive is just a reader - you can't erase it. You can erase your hard drive, but not if it's the drive you're booting from. The optical driver will show up if media is in it. You've probably damaged the optical media (CD, DVD), if you cancelled halfway through an operation, try new media. You may have also unmounted the media, in which case you could remount it by ejecting and re-placing the media.
