Powerbook G4 Question Mark

Im very new to Mac but ok around PC's. My son persuaded me to buy an IMAc and we've been happy, so trying to learn!

My son has a Powerbook 15 inch 1.5. He tried to start it and it came up with a question mark and Piccaso folder.

I borrowed another G4 and looked at the harddrive, using Firewire and copied the other drive. It found the volume, erased and copied. I then checked it on the host computer and it came up as a readable drive.

Tried restarting with no success......any ideas

*When I copy the drive with firewire, does it copy over the OS as well as the file structure? I'm I better off wiping the drive and trying to insert the orginal disks?
When I tried it, it looked at the disk for 5 seconds and then spat it back out!*
