I'm having a problem with my PowerBook G4 where is goes into sleep mode at random times. Mostly when I am streaming video.... or at times the fan comes on, it sounds super high then boom..... sleep mode again. After hitting the space bar, it comes back on, but it'll happen again shortly after. I've played with the sleep settings and nothing has helped...... anyone have any ideas??

Try resetting the PMU. Its a different process depending on which model powerbook you have. Usually involves disconnecting AC power and removing the battery then holding the power button for 5 seconds. Then putting the battery back in and turning it on again. But yours may be different.

I also have a similar problem with mine. Shortly after having to pay to replace the screen, I began having this problem of my PB G4 sleeping randomly, sometimes for an hour + and sometimes for only a few seconds before responding again. I took it to a Mac approved store who said it was the logic board, although it did not show up confirmed on their diagnostic tests. I am wondering if someone can confirm that the logic board is actually the issue before I purchase one to replace it.

Unfortunately, it seems most people give up on these PBs.

They could have left off the sleep magnet after repalcing the display. If you close the lid and the machine does not go to sleep that will tell you that they may have left out putting back the sleep magnet. But if the machine is just sitting or goes to sleep randomly in the middle of usage, its more than likely not the magnet, or lack of a magnet.

It does not have a problem going to sleep. It is like a narcoleptic computer. It falls asleep randomly in the middle of movies, games, typing, etc. and sometimes goes days or weeks without acting up or it could be every 10 seconds, sometimes it will sleep for long periods or short periods. It is completely random.
I found a few other posts throughout the internet with a similar issue and the initial response was usually the same :

I had tried that myself, among other things, before taking it to a Mac store to have it evaluated. They charged me $100 to look at it and told me it needed a new logic board, which would have cost $1k to fix it at the time. However, they did not confirm that it was the logic board that is the issue. The technician said it had to be due to the symptoms. I just hoped someone could confirm this before I dish out the money.

More than likely is the logic board. I wouldn't dish out the money when a new macbook would cost the same price and run circles around that machine.
