powerbook g4 won't start up further than empty desktop with wallpaper

I tried rebooting, resetting pram and did the fsck -fy thing. That fixed the HD, it did a minor bitmap repair. It said 'invalid volume free block count' and fixed it. But after rebooting nothing has changed. still shows an empty desktop with a wallpaper image and does nothing else.

Help would be very much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

If you have your Installation Disks that came with your Mac, boot on THAT and then run Disk Utility and see if that fixes the volume.

If that does not work . . . or you do not have your IDs . . . peruse this FAQ:

http://macosx.com/forums/howto-faqs/319032-help-my-data-how-disk-warrior-cloning-saves-you.html

A lot will depend on what data you do not have backed up, what system you have, what computer you have, et cetera.

Nevertheless, Disk Warrior and and an Ex-HD for cloning makes life easier.

thanks for your reply!

I did an archive and reinstall with my disks. Well.. the first installation disk went fine, but the second one keeps freezing so now i can't finish the install.

I also did the extended hardware test that's on the disk. It says that everything is fine. Although it did freak out a bit when it was examining 'memory', the screen changed color several times, but after that it went back to the test screen to tell me everything is ok.

What to do next? It's driving me mad.

Thanks again!

"The second one keeps freezing?"

What is the "second one?"

We need: Exact Computer you are using
The OS you are trying to load.
What discs you have.
